Fact checking with… Clariva Rijkland – Recruitment Manager at OBI4wan

In the series “Fact checking with…” we interview our colleagues from OBI4wan about their responsibilities, vision and the person behind the expert. Clariva Rijkland is Recruitment Manager at OBI4wan and responsible for attracting new talent. This involves a lot more than you might think; have you heard of the candidate experience or the employer value proposition? Clariva knows everything about it and has a clear vision on what the ideal recruitment process for organizations looks like. How she uses her knowledge for OBI4wan can be read in this interview.

What are your responsibilities as Recruitment Manager?

As Recruitment Manager I am responsible from A to Z for recruiting and bringing in new colleagues. My tasks consist of:

  • Distributing our vacancies
  • Interviewing
  • The negotiations
  • The onboarding of new employees.

I am also responsible for drafting and sending out new contracts, internal documentation and I focus on strengthening and expanding our Employer Brand by making OBI4wan visible to job seekers and other parties. I am also the confidant for my colleagues at OBI4wan.

What challenges and opportunities do you think play a major role for organizations in this digital world?

Many companies find it a challenge to use trends and technology as efficiently and effectively as possible. I notice that parties have difficulty finding the right balance with regard to automating the recruitment process and promoting the candidate experience. Recruiters want candidates to get in touch with the company as quickly and easily as possible when there is a vacancy, but it is so important that this is also done in a personal way.

I think employers will be most successful if they have what they stand for and are guided by it; in other words, have their employer value proposition in order. They can also use technology and online platforms to process and strengthen their external communication. I also notice that companies are following almost every trend that passes by, without thinking about how they can constantly attract new talent in the long run. You shouldn’t just look at the fastest way to attract people, but how to retain talent the longest. That starts with asking the following questions:

  • What keeps the employees at the company?
  • What do employees think is an important reason to consider taking a new step at all?
  • What added value does it bring a candidate to join this team/organisation?

Answering these questions ensures that you as an organisation distinguish yourself from the competitors. Using the right technology and online platforms, you then ensure that this information reaches the right person at the right time.

How do you see the future of OBI4wan in this developing market and how does OBI4wan stand out?

Where many parties only provide a dashboard to make certain data visible, we go a step further. We not only develop the software for our customers, but also function as a substantive sparring partner. I am convinced that many (potential) customers will include OBI4wan as their supplier for this reason. We are not only aware of the latest trends but also find ways to implement them in the solutions we offer.

Customers who purchase one or more of our products receive the right guidance and can always contact our Client Consultants if they have any questions. Many of our consultants have a background in the communications industry or in reputation management and therefore understand exactly what the client needs.   

How do you make sure you’re on top of your game every day?

In my role I stay on top of my game by staying on the market. Whether it’s the contact with potential new employees or competitive colleagues. I am also a member of several recruitment (network) groups and I follow platforms such as Recruiting Roundtable Nederland, Recruitment Matter, Frankwatching and Werf& . In addition, I regularly visit networking and recruitment events, read literature about recruitment and watch webinars. Furthermore, I use our own tool, the Brand Monitor, to stay informed about the status of OBI4wan. This tool gives me insight into current topics that are linked to our company. Many of these topics I use as USP in my communication to candidates when I am recruiting them.

Where are you proud of and what makes you come to work every day?

I am proud of the fact that I can take the lead in finding new talents for such an ambitious organization as OBI4wan. It is nice to know that the promises you make, such as career opportunities, a nice working atmosphere and an informal culture, are what the company stands for.

Who or what inspires you?

I am most inspired by my colleagues, the people currently working at OBI4wan. It’s hard work to stay number one, but everyone who works here has a heart for the business. I am happy to contribute to the growth of OBI4wan and am curious to see what the future holds in store for us.
